DLC is ruining video games [FAR CRY 3 SPOILER ALERT]
*FAR CRY 3 SPOILER ALERT. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED FAR CRY 3′S STORY MODE*
[rant] I just completed the story mode of Far Cry 3, and I am beyond disappointed. It’s the second worst ending of a video game that I’ve ever seen, with the first being L.A. Noire.
I chose to save my friends; I didn’t have the heart, or desire, to kill Liza and stay with Citra. Explain this to me: If I finally woke up and realized that I became a “monster,” and Citra is dead, WHY WOULD I STAY ON THE ISLAND? Oh, I know why: downloadable content.
Now, I was really excited to see the ending because I thought that maybe, just maybe, I would get to see where Jason Brody came from and go home and see my parents and all of that. Nope, that’s not the case. I saved my friends and then chose to stay on the island anyway, even those Citra is dead and Dennis probably wants to kill me now for choosing my friends over Citra. It just doesn’t make sense. Yes, I would like to continue exploring the island, but the game should have had a longer ending, in which the player can then choose to go back to the island afterwards to continue exploring.
It makes no sense to me why Jason would want to stay on the island, and the only thing I can figure is that is opens up doors for DLC, or a fourth entry in the series.
I researched the other ending, and that one sucks as well, because Citra ends up killing you right after you get laid. Well, at least you die happy.

@playingthecanon I completely agree. I like DLC, and sometimes it really adds something the game (Undead Nightmare, InFamous: Festival of Blood, etc.), but at other times it just completely ruins the story mode of a game. Incredibly annoying. This also happens when developers focus too much on the multiplayer experience instead of the single-player experience. I mostly play games for the story mode; I’m not a huge fan of online multiplayer.
DLC is such a money-grubbing, artistic compromise. I think with some games it makes sense to support it, but in a scenario like you just described, it’s incredibly annoying.
